Our beach house is a modern prefab building called a Wee House. It was designed by Alchemy Architects in Minneapolis, and built by Stratford Homes in Idaho. The house came in two 14’x50’ pieces and was set on the foundation by a crane. Even though it’s a prefab house, it’s a one of a kind. Floor plan, materials, kitchen design, cabinets and bathrooms all reflect our unique style and needs.
Why prefab? Neither of us had built a house before, and so we found the idea of prefab, with its shorter timelines and simple process a little less daunting than starting completely from scratch. Also, we love the clean look and simplicity of modern design. Finally, our property has a 15 foot height restriction, and so a modern, flat roof building seemed like a good option. Great, appropriate design, plus speed and ease. That’s why we chose prefab. Of course, it took longer than expected and was not without its challenges. But we’re thrilled with the result, and hope you are too.
We'd be happy to talk to you about our prefab experience. You can also reach out to Alchemy Architects and learn more about the Wee House at www.weehouse.com.
